Scaffolding tools are an important component of the scaffolding work. Without scaffolding tools, the workers cannot efficiently perform the scaffolding work. The scaffolding tools helps to support the framework of the scaffold tower so that it won’t collapse. Scaffolding tools are often referred as components of the scaffold tower. Some of the important scaffolding tools include scaffold braces, scaffold frames and scaffold planks.
The scaffolding tools which you purchased must be matched with the model of the scaffold tower. For example, you cannot buy a scaffold braces from ABC company and the scaffold frames from XYZ company. You should purchase all the components of the scaffold tower from the same company. If you purchase from different companies, you will not be able to setup them properly.
When selecting a scaffolding tool, make sure it is suitable for the job which you want to perform. The scaffold tool should be able to support its own weight. In addition, it must be capable of supporting 4 times the load of the workers. The suspension ropes must be robust so that it can support the maximum load that is imposed on the scaffold. You should choose scaffold guardrails that can bear up to two hundred pounds from the top rail. The scaffold guardrail must have the ability withstand one hundred pounds in the mid rail.
Before purchasing a scaffold, you should determine the location where the scaffold will be used. You should review the blue prints of the construction project. From the blueprint, you will be able to assess the features of the building and know what type scaffold should be used. The scaffold tools must comply with the OSHA safety requirements. Scaffold tools have several ratings. If the scaffold is used to support a few workers and hand tools, you can purchase a light duty scaffold. Medium duty scaffold can support a larger number of workers, and hand tools. Workers can bring the building materials to the medium duty scaffold. Heavy duty scaffold is used to bear a heavier load.
If you are not sure which scaffold tools to purchase, you can consult a scaffold erector. The scaffold erector has knowledge about the best scaffold equipments for the work which you want to perform. If your workers are not skilled at erecting the scaffold, you must provide training for them. You can obtain the scaffold erection manual book from the manufacturer. The manual offer the safety guidelines for using the scaffold tools. It has a step by step instruction which teaches you how to setup the scaffold tower. By using the manual, you will be able to erect the scaffold tower properly. While your workers are erecting the scaffold, a person skilled in scaffold erection should supervise them. For safety purposes, there must be a distance between the scaffold tower and the power lines. There should be a distance of 3 – 5” between the scaffold and insulated power lines. If the power line has a voltage higher than 300 volts, there should be distance of 10 – 15”.
